About Berlin

Berlin, capital city of Germany, is the largest City in Germany (around 3,400,000 inhabitants). It is 38 kilometres long and 45 kilometres wide and covers an area of 889 square kilometres. Due to its separation during the Cold War, the city has today two city centres – the western city is situated around the Kurfürstendamm (the old city centre of former West Berlin). The eastern city is situated around Alexanderplatz (the old city centre of former East Berlin). In 1999, the German Government moved from Bonn to Berlin, which brought numerous new jobs and buildings. Located at the old frontier around the Brandenburg Gate, you find today the reconstructed House of Parliament (Reichstag), most Ministries and Government authorities together with various foreign embassies – including the recently opened US embassy at Pariser Platz, situated close to the Brandenburger Tor, the Reichstag and the Holocaust Memorial. Berlin is famous for its numerous historical sites and museums. Along the boulevard Unter den Linden, between Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz, you find for instance the Humboldt University, the Staatsoper (opera), the Zeughaus museum, and the UNESCO world heritage site of the Museumsinsel, an island in the river Spree with several classicist museum buildings next to the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral). Further information about currency, time zone etc. are compiled here.

The Conference Venue

Palisa.de is located at a restored industrial monument, the former Umspannwerk Ost (Transformer Station East). The building was constructed in 1899/1900. Parts of it were destroyed in World War II and in the 1950s at the construction of the Stalinallee (today: Karl-Marx-Allee), a Soviet-style boulevard. In 1999, it was reconstructed and modernised with ecological building materials, low-temperature wall heating systems and intelligent air conditioning. Today the Umspannwerk Ost is used as a cultural and convention center including several plenar and seminar rooms, a restaurant, a theatre and a music-club. All rooms provide functional and high-quality convention equipment.
